Animal Nutrition

This programme focuses on monogastrics’ nutrition for an efficient production and their effects on animal health and welfare, consumer safety and environmental protection. The programme develops new feed additives (e.g. enzymes), alternative products to antibiotic growth promoters, and products aimed at reducing the use of antibiotics.

Other research lines are related to nutrition and intestinal health, mainly immunity and epigenetics, as well as to the relation between nutrition and body composition with meat quality. The programme is also developing tools to evaluate the environmental impacts of intensive farming, introducing the principles of circular economy and exploring new protein sources.
